Signs of Hard Water
Not many people understand what hard water is, especially because it doesn’t refer to the water being physically hard. What it does mean, however, is that your water has high mineral content. The minerals in question are calcium, magnesium, and trace amounts of other miscellaneous minerals that naturally accumulate during the water cycle. As such, signs of hard water can be found in both well water and city water.
Hard water isn’t dangerous; it’s perfectly safe to drink, and hard water showers won’t hurt you, but they can wear down and create issues or cause damage to your utilities and belongings. For example, your sinks or bathtub may develop ugly stains, clothes and linens will gradually wear out, and your water bill will rise as appliances work harder than before.
Do I Have Hard Water?
Some signs you should look out for include:
- White chalky residue spots on dishes after being run through the dishwasher
- Clothes, towels, and other linens feel rough, and the colors have dulled
- Low water pressure from sink or showers because pipes are clogged up
- Scaled deposit buildups on faucets
- You notice your skin is drier and hair is flatter because soap or lather isn’t being rinsed away
